Beating the mesmer double?
Yes I tried the search but it said the search was disabled... something about the server being to busy. So if you got time to tell me to use the search, you got time to maybe tell me what I'm asking about anyway.
So I'm a Me/E with most of my points to illusion, inspiration and domention. I just finished the desert missions and am trying to beat my double. Now I'm only lv17. My double isn't exactly my double. he is lv 20. Anyway. I tried various skills both mesmer and ele and can't seem to beat him. Now I got a 14-22 mesmer staff +60 to health and +12 energy. Currently my mesmer has 521HP and 43 energy. Should I just go skill-less and give it a shot? Bring a couple pointless spells? I know I don't have all the mesmer skills. Are there certain skills I can bring that he might cast that would hurt him instead of me?
Any tips would be great. I tried a couple times and just can't seem to kick his butt lol.

To me the most easiest way to beat your double is just emapthy + distortion.
Cast empathy and then distortion and just strafe around.

Umm... when I fought mine (and got bonus)
Started off with backfire and empathy, power spiked the doppleganger's backfire, ran up close to shatter hex empathy off me, and it was pretty much over then. Go domination, it's the easiest way in my opinion.

stupid way to "smithe" ur dopleganger
the most stupid way to kill ur dopleganger is to set ur attributes only for domination (u' ll use one spike (power or leak) to interrupt his casting of backfire and backfire), so take backfire, power leak (or spike) rest of skills should take necro sacrifice skills (exept blood renewal) let him cast 'em so he loses his hps with sacrifice and effects of backfire
when u ascend: try casting backfire before him or interrupt his backfire and then cast it,

Empathy + Distortion is the way to go Both my Me/W and my brothers E/Me beat the doppleganger this way under 50 secs.. I suggest having your domination as high as possible and put the rest of you points in illusion (minimum 4 ) Really easy this way! Good luck beating your doppleganger!
(PS. Sorry for my bad english )

you could try using your /E secondary with meteor shower and meteor with fire maxed and the rest in fast cast and then kite his meteor shower

For starters, I knew where to find he guide, so here is the link http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=27576
Be careful of some of the advice though because it is pretty bad...
Just remember that your doppleganger is not as smart as you (hopefully).
If you bring backfire, you better plan on NOT casting lots of spells because it will put backfire on you.
I kiilled it with my Me/E in about 25 or 30 seconds and I took spells like meteor, fireball, immolate, leech sig, power drain, conjure phantasm, another interupt, and ome more...can't remember.
Play to the WEAKNESSES of the skills. If it starts to cast a long cast-time spell interupt it. If you want to get rid of its interupts cast a cheap low output spell, and it will interupt that one so you are claer for something bigger and better.
hope that helps

1) with a secondary of ele you should be able to spam flare, however I had most fun using my mesmer skills on it because it is dumb Alternately cast meteor shower and firestorm and then run around in circles.
TACTICS THAT WORK - (I have used them successfully)
1) Take long casts and interupts. You won't be using the long casts, just the interupts.
2) Backfire + spells. You won't be using the spells, they will. This one isn't as easy as it sounds (by my count it has a 50% failure rate - as sometimes they won't cast while they have backfire on them. As an ele 2ndary take flare they will almost certainly use it, take mantra of flame to protect against it).
3) Empathy + distortion/physical resistance. This is my favourite. Boost up your domination and cast empathy, they will cast it on you. Cast distortion and/or physical resistance and run in circles around them you will have to recast distortion, empathy and PR (you have been warned). Do not attack them, but they will continue to attack you This method takes them down in about 40s.

Well all your advice was good but I had to try a few things, including a lot of what you suggested and came up with what worked for me very well and got me the bonus. At first I tried bringing fire spells that would take forever to cast which I could interupt. I also brought enchantment spells that were pretty pointless but figured she would use them anyway.
Well it was no use. I could get her down to about 50% life remaining without taking a hit from her, she'd be low on health and probably no skills to use. So she picked me off in a matter of seconds with her bow and axe. I was getting frustrated, I tried everything... I even went skill less lol...
So I redid my skill bar, filling the first ones up with enchantments, useless ones and one really nifty one (can't remember the name) that drops the caster's life down by 165 points for a certain amount of time. Then I brought Arcane(sp) Echo, Meteor shower and firestorm. No interupts, no healing spells.
Battle starts off with her casting those enchantments upon herself, knocking her health down and such while I cast Arcane Echo, then Meteor shower. Arcane echo of course turned into Meteor shower so I recast Meteor shower. At this point one of my meteor showers broke up her cast of firestorm, knocking her down. She's well below 50% life at this point and I'm still fresh. So I cast firestorm on her as she begins to cast Meteor shower. Then I pelt on her with my staff. Of course I got knocked down by a meteor but it hit me just as she fell over dead.
So there is my character in the cut scene trying to cheer while getting pelted by meteors but I won AND got the bonus.
If you want a think class... Mesmer is awsome for it. I never had to do this brain work before with my warrior and ele monk (before the AoE nerf)

As a Me/Mo, I put backfire on him first (or interupted his first). Then empathy. As a monk I loaded the rest of my skills with enchantments (except mending). He was too busy enchanting himself the -133 backfire got him down quick.

Yep. Backfire + Crappy enchants ought to do it. Wards, too.
Me/E or Me/Mo tends to work, as I've found. Just pack maximum Domination and Fast Casting, and zero everything else. You should be able to throw on Backfire before he can do the same to you, and then he'll enchant himself to death.
Hint: To ensure you get your backfire first, hover over the key to use it, and as soon as the screen loads, tab then press it. The doppleganger takes a second to realize you're there.

You relaly shouldn't have trouble beating your double as a mesmer....I killed mine in 3 seconds or so.
Backfire, Empathy, *insert useless Ele skills here*, Distortion
Don't interrupt his backfire, just let him cast it. Distortion is a stance, it won't trigger the backfire. He should die in a few seconds....

Ooooh, great tips and which will help. I just need to do Thirsty River and then I'll be facing my mesmer double....EEK!
I've just captured Clumsiness out in the Salt Flats. It's a very useful skill against those melee guys who comes charging at you.
